Please Can You Change the Music to Nashīds?
After dropping off a couple of friends at a restaurant, I went to park my car. Upon walking in, I was very happy to hear Nashīds playing in the background. I thanked the owner who said to me that my colleague had told him a ‘Mawlānā’ was coming to eat, hence he had the music replaced with Nashīds.
A couple of weeks later, I walked into another restaurant and again was very happy to hear Nashīds in the background. The chief waiter came to welcome us and said to me that the moment I saw you walk in, I had the music replaced with Nashīds.
Just 2 weeks ago, I was in another restaurant. As soon as we placed our order, I called over a waiter and requested him to change the music to Nashīds. He switched it immediately.
The point of this message of mine is to encourage each and every reader, that if we cannot stop an evil act with our hands, then we should try and stop it with our tongues. Imagine the rewards you will get when so many people listen to Nashīds in place of music, simply because of your request.
At the end of the day, you are a customer at the restaurant and are paying for your food. There is no harm at all in making a polite request to change the music to Nashīds. If the management do not comply with your request, don’t go there a second time. Simple.
All of us need to speak up on this issue, especially my ‘Ulamā and Ḥuffāẓ colleagues as well as my ‘Ālimāt sisters. At a time when dining out has become a norm within our families and friends, let’s not indulge in sins, the effects of which can be very harmful.
May The Almighty grant us all the courage to speak out against sins, Āmeen.
Please spread this message widely.
