Ramaḍān and The Mercy of The Almighty

السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ

It’s Friday 1st May 2020. My chosen subject today is ‘Ramaḍān and the Mercy of The Almighty’.

As we approach the end of the first 10 days of this Ramaḍān, also known as the ‘Asharah of Mercy’, let’s ponder upon the Mercy of Almighty Allāh. Since the day Almighty Allāh created us, He has showered us with His Mercy and Blessings. If we just ponder upon the bounties and favours bestowed upon us, we would quickly realise they are countless.

We start all good actions by saying ‘In the name of Almighty Allāh, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful’. Now let us ponder upon why such a Merciful Creator, has brought us all to our knees this Ramaḍān. Never in the history of humanity has mankind been in need of the Mercy of The Almighty as today.

What have we done to displease this Merciful Lord? Such a Merciful Lord who is still showering us with so much Mercy. Has anything decreased from our dastarkhwān at Ifṭār time? Not at all. He is still feeding us. Has anyone lost any of their 5 senses? No one; He is still letting us use all parts of our bodies. So what may have upset Him?

To be honest, each and every person can answer for themselves. I am attaching a very recent video clip with this message today; which you may already have heard, as it went viral soon after it was released. But today, I want you to sit with your whole family and listen to this clip again. It’s about 20 minutes long, but it’s the weekend so we all have time. Plus, in this lockdown situation, we all have plenty of time anyway.

Although I had heard of him and had listened to a number of his Bayāns, I personally got to know Mawlānā Tāriq Jamīl Ṣāḥib a few years ago through my very close friend Sājid Sherpuri.

Mawlānā Tāriq Jamīl Ṣāḥib had never visited a prison in the UK and had expressed his desire to see what a UK prison was like. Sājid contacted me and I managed to arrange a visit to our local prison here in Preston (UK).

It was a Friday morning in 2014 when our group of 5 visited the prison. We spent approximately 2 hours touring each and every part. The governor came to meet Mawlānā Ṣāḥib and we had a very good discussion. Mawlānā Ṣāḥib also addressed some of the Muslims who were there at that time.

As we were returning to Blackburn for JumuꜤah namāz, Mawlānā Ṣāḥib asked ‘from where did these people get their beautiful character from?‘. Then he went silent. After a few moments he turned back from his front seat and looked at us and asked again ‘from where?‘.

Obviously we were waiting for him to answer. One of his colleagues who had travelled with him from Pākistān looked at me and said ‘Mawlānā is asking you’. I was silent. Who dare speak in his presence? After a while, Mawlānā Ṣāḥib spoke.

He said ‘Till today I have not been able to work out from where did this host nation get their character from? Their honesty, their politeness, their consideration of others, their actions, their conduct etc. etc.’ He continued ‘These were supposed to be our morals and character, how low have we as Muslims stooped!’. Mawlānā Ṣāḥib was very close to tears.

The Bayān in the video has the answers to those questions.

I make a humble request to all brothers and sisters to put aside 20 minutes of your time and listen to this Bayān with your heart. This should change our lives اِنْ شَاءَ الَّلهُ.

Almighty Allāh shower His Mercy upon us in this Asharah of Mercy and until our last breath, Āmeen.

Let this go viral so that Muslims worldwide benefit.
