It’s Tuesday 19th April 2022 / 18 Ramaḍān 1443H.
Welcoming the Reverts
On Sunday night, I was privileged to have been invited by our Blackburn Sisters 4 Sisters organisation to a very special Ifṭār gathering they had organised specifically for the reverts of our community.
The venue for the sisters was the Sisters Section, situated on the first floor of the Clitheroe Masjid. It was a most memorable event.
In the gents section in the Masjid, we had a revert brother who was originally from France, but now settled in the UK in Blackburn. There were also two reverts from Clitheroe and another brother who had moved to Blackburn from Reading, whose wife was a revert.
One of the coordinators provided us with a brief report from the sisters section: ‘We had a lady from Delhi who was a Hindu. Most of the reverts have been Muslims for years, one sister for 20 years, اَلْحَمْدُلِلّه. A very diverse list of attendees: a Senegalese family, and a sister with Ukrainian, Scottish, Spanish and French heritage.
Our Muslim born sister from Blackburn enjoyed it so much and was glad she could meet people and made a few friends and also agreed to be a volunteer for future events. So, on the whole, a successful evening, اَلْحَمْدُلِلّه. We also met a hijābi shepherdess.
During Ramaḍān, we do organise a lot of programmes but maybe overlook the reverts of our community. We should try our best to accommodate the reverts as well so that they also feel part of the community and welcomed by us.
May The Almighty accept the efforts of the Blackburn Sisters 4 Sisters organisation and take them from strength to strength, Āmeen.
