Re-connect with The Holy Qur’ān
The most important and valuable book that we have been gifted with is the Holy Qur’ān. Our Creator is speaking with us directly. The issue is, how many of us have made the effort to try and understand the Qur’ān?
During our Maktab days, we learnt how to pray the Qur’ān. We will all recall the days when we used to pray fluently and correctly, to the best of our abilities. Once we left Maktab, our recitation did not remain regular and punctual. Today, most of us struggle to pray.
One Juz (Pāra) should be completed within 30 to 40 mins max. If you are taking longer than that, then you need to start reciting daily. Even if you are quicker than this, you should recite daily. Start off small, whether it’s a single page or just a few Āyahs, then gradually increase the amount.
At the same time, try your best to attend Qur’ān Tafsīr classes that take place in the Masjids. Get a copy of the Qur’ān with an authentic English translation (please consult your local Imām) and try to understand what your Lord is saying to you.
It is a real shame that we have neglected the most important book of our life and not given it its due respect and reverence. Whilst I am on the subject, a very humble request to all our Imāms and management committees, please organise a Qur’ān session in your Masjid on a daily basis, even if it is for 5/10 mins. It is time for us to re-connect to the Qur’ān.
May The Almighty grant us all the ability to understand the Qur’ān and to recite it correctly and punctually, Āmeen.
