Ramaḍān and Ṣadaqat ul-Fiṭr

السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ

It’s Sunday 10th May 2020. Let’s focus on ‘Ramaḍān and Ṣadaqat ul-Fiṭr‘ today, اِنْ شَاءَ الَّلهُ.

Before I touch upon Ṣadaqat ul-Fiṭr, I need to make a very clear clarification of a mistake in my ‘Ramaḍān and Fidyah’ message dated Saturday 9th May (yesterday). Fidyah should be given ONLY if one cannot fast at all. If they can do Qaḍā at a later date or have already done their Qaḍā, then Fidyah is not necessary. I do sincerely apologise for my mistake which was pointed out to me by a few colleagues.

Whilst we are on the subject, I humbly request all readers to familiarise themselves with all the laws of SharīꜤah, especially those associated with important issues that affect our daily lives. A very close colleague of mine, Mufti Yūsuf ibn Mufti Shabbir, has made this task very easy for all of us, ‏مَا شَآءَ الله.

He has created https://islamicportal.co.uk, which has the answers to many questions. It is one of the most authentic portals with most, if not all, rulings verified by Mufti Shabbir Ṣāḥib and Mufti Tāhir Ṣāḥib of Dārul Uloom Bury. Almighty Allāh reward Mufti Yūsuf for this magnificent portal, Āmeen. People are benefiting across the globe, with people from over 135 countries having accessed the portal so far, ‏مَا شَآءَ الله.

Back to Ṣadaqat ul-Fiṭr. This is a form of charity which is compulsory on each and every Muslim upon whom Zakāt is compulsory and must be given either on the day of ꜤEid ul-Fiṭr (before ꜤEid Ṣalāh), or before. It is also compulsory on behalf of our children.

You must be thinking why am I touching upon this issue on the 17th roza (fast), as we are still 12 or 13 rozās (fasts) away from ꜤEid ul-Fiṭr. The purpose of Ṣadaqat ul-Fiṭr is to provide food for the less fortunate so that they can enjoy ꜤEid ul-Fiṭr as well.

It has become very common here in the UK that people donate their Ṣadaqat ul-Fiṭr on ꜤEid day. Although your obligation is fulfilled, the purpose is not, because money donated on ꜤEid Day will not reach the poor on the same day. Hence my touching upon this topic today.

So come on each and every one, work out how much Ṣadaqat ul-Fiṭr (£3 per person) is due on you and donate it straight away. There are a number of authentic registered charities that you can donate to. There is more information available on https://islamicportal.co.uk.

Almighty Allāh make this upcoming ꜤEid ul-Fiṭr a happy and joyous one for all Muslims worldwide and always keep all of us in His Protection, Āmeen.
