السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ
It’s Saturday 9th May 2020. Today I want to talk about ‘Ramaḍān and Fidyah‘.
Our SharīꜤah has made following Islām very easy for us indeed, by giving us flexibility in every matter of religion. Let us take the rozas (fasts) of Ramaḍān as an example. As part of one of the 5 pillars of Islām. each able mature Muslim is expected to fast.
However, there are so many conditions that must be fulfilled before the fast becomes compulsory on you. If in doubt, check with your local Imām or ꜤĀlimāt and they will be able to guide you. If one cannot fast due to any valid SharꜤī reason, then our beautiful religion has prescribed a very small amount of money which needs to be paid to poor people.
This is known as ‘Fidyah’, which can only be paid to those who are eligible for Zakāt. The amount, at present, is only £3 per fast, so if one cannot fast for the whole month, they need to pay £90.
A humble request to all to keep this very important law of Islām in mind and, if applicable, please ensure you pay your Fidyah. If you have missed fasts in previous Ramaḍāns and not performed Qaḍā yet, then you need to pay Fidyah on those missed fasts as well.
Do bear in mind that paying the Fidyah does not mean you don’t have to do Qaḍā of those fasts anymore. Whenever you are able, you have to do Qaḍā. However, if one cannot fast at all due to valid SharꜤī excuses, then that is fine. If you haven’t already paid your Fidyah and you have a valid SharꜤī excuse, then please don’t delay, as there is no guarantee of life.
Finally, let’s not forget our beloved Marḥūmīn (deceased). If we are aware of any fasts that they may have missed and not done Qaḍā, and not paid Fidyah, then do not delay one little bit. Pay the Fidyah immediately, either from their money, or from yours. Our Marḥūmīn sacrificed so much for us so let’s repay them back in their hour of need.
Almighty Allāh accept all our donations and forgive all our Marḥūmīn in this beautiful ‘Asharah of Forgiveness’, Āmeen.
Please make sure this message reaches each and everyone.
جَزَاكَ اللَّهُ خَيْرًا
