It’s Saturday 20th June 2020. Let’s focus on ‘Profile Photos on Mobiles’ today.
Whenever I receive a message on my mobile phone, my gaze usually falls on the profile photo of the person who has sent the message. A number of people have an important message, reading which is of benefit, as their profile picture.. Some have photos of spectacular scenery مَا شَآءَ الله, some memory they may have captured on their phone during their journeys, etc. Those photos are enjoyable as they remind me of the beautiful Creation of our Creator.
However, what I fail to understand is, what does one achieve by putting his or her picture, or of a family member or living creature, as the profile photo? According to the majority opinion of scholars, photos and videos of living creatures are prohibited in our Beautiful Religion. The only exception given by some scholars is if the pictures or videos provide you with any religious benefit, even then, with a number of conditions and restrictions.
As well as being prohibited, there is a very good chance that your profile photo could be seen with an evil eye (nazar), and this could harm you or the person in the picture. There is absolutely no need for it.
Therefore, a very humble request to all : If you have used your photo, or of any other family member or living creature, then remove it straight away please. Replace it with a beneficial saying, or some scenery. Many times we are committing sins without knowing, and those sins do not benefit us at all.
One of them is the mobile phone profile photo. What do we get from it? What benefit do we achieve? Many of our friends and family members are involved in this. Share this message with them as well.
Almighty Allāh protect us at all times and give us all the correct understanding of His beautiful religion, Āmeen.
