Modesty in Islām

السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ

It’s Tuesday 6th July.

My chosen topic today is  ‘Modesty in Islām’.

In one of my messages a few weeks ago, I touched upon the lessons we learnt from the Covid virus. Addressing my sisters, I mentioned modesty and the importance of ensuring the correct dress code at all times. A sister on my broadcast list reminded me about the appropriate dress code necessary for the brothers as well.

Our religion teaches modesty at the highest level. It is absolutely essential that both brothers and sisters dress appropriately at all times. The Almighty has created both sexes and laid down very clear guidelines for both. The whole body of the female must be covered at all times besides the hands, face and feet.

‘Covered’ does not just mean ‘having a cloth over it.’ No, the covering must be such that no body part is revealed. This can only be attained by wearing loose fitting garments. The brothers should ensure that they keep their bodies covered at all times as well, especially when in public places like shopping centres etc.

Unfortunately today, modesty just seems to have gone out of the window. Our brothers come out in public wearing shorts, revealing parts of the body that must be covered. This attire does not suit Muslims at all. Remember, each and every action is recorded and will have to be accounted for in the Hereafter.

When the weather is nice and everyone feels like coming out to enjoy themselves, think for a moment; is your dressing according to your faith? Is this the way to thank The Almighty for the beautiful weather? Do we even deserve such nice days?

Let’s all of us turn to Almighty Allāh and repent upon our past sins and make a firm intention of not committing any more sins ever again.

May The Almighty guide us all on the correct Islamic path, Āmeen.
