KFC is not Certified by HMC
A friend messaged me last Saturday, enquiring about the Ḥalāl status of KFC in the Mall in Blackburn Town Centre. I informed him that it was not certified by HMC. He thanked me and said that it was full of Muslims.
My message today is just to clarify that no KFC outlet in the UK is certified by HMC. Many years ago, we met with the owners of KFC, who informed us that all their chickens were stunned. We did request them to switch to non-stunned chickens, and become certified by HMC.
They informed us that due to the volume required at their stores, it was not possible to supply unstunned chickens; therefore, not possible for KFC to be certified by HMC. We need to keep a couple of important points in mind here.
Not all KFC outlets are labelled as Ḥalāl. Those that are, they most definitely are not certified by HMC. A few years ago, a few scholars of Blackburn gave permission to Muslims to consume the KFC products at the KFC outlet at Frontier Park here in Blackburn.
To the best of my knowledge, that was the only exception, because the scholars had personally visited the plant, where the chickens were being sourced from. It is unclear if they still take responsibility for Muslims consuming at that particular outlet.
To conclude, no KFC outlet in the UK is certified by HMC, and if scholars have given permission, then it is for the Frontier Park outlet only. In matters of suspicion and doubt, our Sharī’ah advises us to err on the side of caution. Most towns and cities have outlets certified by HMC. Err on the side of caution and only consume HMC certified products.
May The Almighty give us all the ability to only consume genuine certified Ḥalāl products, Āmeen.
