It’s Time For Sadaqah

السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ

It’s Saturday 16th January 2020.

My chosen topic today is ‘It’s time for Sadaqah’.

When it comes to giving donations to a charity, there are a few different categories. One is Zakāt, which is the compulsory 2.5%, due on those who have the means. Another one is known as Sadaqah.

This is a voluntary donation, given to protect oneself and one’s near and dear ones from any kind of calamity, big or small. Regardless of the amount, this is a very powerful means of removing difficulties and keeping problems at bay. Sadaqah also protects the giver from a bad death. Putting things into context today, I don’t think we have come across such a difficult and testing phase during our lives so far.

Yes, of course, there will have been ups and downs over the years; that is what life is all about. However, these surely are unprecedented times and the Ummah at large is being tested by the Magnificent Creator. So what better than to take this opportunity to give some Sadaqah in the path of Almighty Allāh?

Around this time every year, we at the Muslim Welfare Institute (MWI) launch our ‘Winter Appeal’. This year, our focus is on the widows of Bangladesh. A small amount of £10 will provide a blanket, a shawl and 20 Vitamin D tablets to a widow and her orphans.

On behalf the MWI, I would like to take this opportunity to request each and every brother and sister to try and donate at least £30 as Sadaqah, which will provide 3 widows’ families with a much needed winter pack, اِنْ شَاءَ الَّلهُ.

Although we have all been affected by the Covid 19 virus, those of us in the UK are still so fortunate. In comparison to millions of people across the globe, we are still living a life of luxury. Yes, some families will be struggling to make ends meet. However, Allāh Almighty has blessed us with sufficient means to give some Sadaqah, even if it is a few pennies. Remember, charity does not decrease wealth.

Please take this opportunity to read the annual winter edition of our Unitymagazine, which has updates on our projects in Asia, the Balkans and the UK. Our winter appeal is featured on page 4.

Donate with an open heart with the firm belief in the Power of The Almighty, Who alone can remove this difficulty and trial from the face of this earth.

Almighty Allāh grant us all the ability to donate some Sadaqah towards this very worthwhile project and bless us all with good health and happiness, Āmeen.
