السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ
It’s Wednesday 11th November 2020.
Let’s talk about the ‘Harms of TV and Movies’ today.
I have touched upon this previously in one of my messages. However, as we are in a state of lockdown once again, I just wanted to remind ourselves not to fall prey to the Shaytān and our desires. As the majority of us are now at home, we need something to pass our time with. For those who are still at work or working from home, most of their time is occupied, .مَا شَآءَ الله.
However, there is this big gap in the evenings, from 6pm to 11pm, which one needs to pass. One of our worst habits is to sleep late. During the winter months, the latest ‘Ishā Jamā’ah is at 7:45pm. This means that the majority of us are done and dusted for the day by 9pm, or 10pm latest. Why not go to sleep straight away? Shift workers will have different times, but the same habits.
Sleeping early will save you from sins, give you more rest and comfort, and make it much easier for you to get up for Fajr. As the saying goes ‘early to bed early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise’. What a wonderful blessing of Almighty Allāh.
For those who are at home, make a schedule where you keep yourself occupied in various activities, and stick to it. Besides worshipping Almighty Allāh and fulfilling your daily Islamic routines, one of the best pastimes is reading.
When I was at Primary and Secondary school some 40 years ago, visiting the library on a Saturday was a must. We used to carry home our favourite books. There was no social media distraction in those days; our books were our pastime.
Let’s go back to basics. Start reading up on the history of Islām. It will be an eye opener and a real wake up call. What happened in Spain (Andalusia)? The Balkans, and the Ottoman Empire (Uthmāni Khilāfah)? Not forgetting India.
Do not, I emphasise, DO NOT make the TV and movies, including social media platforms like youtube, etc. your pastime. If it is solely for Islamic material, then fair enough. Otherwise, keep a million miles away from all the other filth which is rife today.
I will finish with a point for you to ponder upon. On the Day of Judgement, each person will be resurrected from their graves in the condition they left this world. Imagine your soul departs from your body whilst you are watching an immoral or sinful programme. How will you face your Magnificent Creator on that Day?
Almighty Allāh bless us all with the ability to stay away from each and every type of sin, Āmeen.
جَزَاكَ اللَّهُ خَيْرًا
