Cleanliness in our Neighbourhoods

السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ

It’s Wednesday 8th December 2021 / 5 Jumādā al-‘Ūlā 1443H.

Let’s talk about Cleanliness in our Neighbourhoods today.

As a person who does a lot of commuting, I get the opportunity to visit many towns and cities up and down the country. Without any exaggeration at all, it is not very difficult to notice when we are entering a Muslim/Asian neighbourhood. What are the signs?

Restaurants, Takeaways, Asian shops, Mosques, etc. However, one other sign also stands out, and it is this which I wanted to focus upon today. The amount of litter and rubbish that is found in the alleyways and the streets is just disgusting.

What will the host community be thinking about us? We proudly proclaim that purity and cleanliness is half of our faith and make so many similar claims. However, in our neighbourhoods, the reality is very different.

Rather than focusing on other towns and cities, let me mention the areas here in Blackburn dominated by the Muslims. From Shear Brow all the way to Little Harwood, and from Lower Audley all the way to Intack and beyond. These are just examples, and not a comprehensive list.

Just have a look at the state of our alleyways and streets, especially where there are food places and shops with the council bins placed outside. It really is an eyesore to say the least. Why is this the case? Where does all this rubbish come from? Is this what our beautiful religion teaches?

So come on, let each and every one of us get our act together. Do not become the means to trouble and inconvenience others. We should dispose of all our rubbish in our own bins, and any excess rubbish should be taken to the waste management sites.

The council will collect your old unwanted furniture and large items for you at a very modest fee. No need to dump beds, sofas and appliances anywhere and everywhere.

Finally, if we cannot become a means of being a positive role model for our beautiful religion, then please please do not become a negative one, resulting in others staying away from our Dīn.

May The Almighty guide us all to the correct understanding, Āmeen.

Feel free to spread this message far and wide.
