Ramaḍān and IꜤtikāf

السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ

It’s Wednesday 6th May 2020. Let’s talk about ‘Ramaḍān and IꜤtikāf‘.

We are exactly one week away from the start of IꜤtikāf. For those who follow the CMSC, IꜤtikāf will commence at Maghrib time next Wednesday 13th May until the Maghrib preceding ꜤEid ul-Fiṭr.

This is a very special worship associated with the last 10 days of Ramaḍān. Due to the lockdown situation we are in, it will be difficult for many men to perform IꜤtikāf. Each Masjid will be deciding on the (restricted) numbers, etc.

However, what a wonderful opportunity for our sisters to sit in I’tikāf. With the menfolk at home, why not make the most of this golden opportunity. Take the chance whilst you have it. Let the men take over the household chores, especially the kitchen responsibilities, for once.

Although sisters are allowed to leave their I’tikāf place for necessities, this has to be the Ramaḍān when they have to leave their seclusion place the least. A very humble request to all sisters to make the intention, find out the relevant masā’il from local ‘Ālimāts, and go for it.

As regards the gents, now is the time to prove the respect and honour that you hold for your womenfolk. You are at home, with unlimited free time. Let the ladies of the house enjoy their I’tikāf whilst you look after the house and the catering. If nothing, it will teach all of us men to value our womenfolk and not to take their valuable and precious housework for granted.

Almighty Allāh accept everyone’s IꜤtikāf, Āmeen.

Please share widely with all Maḥrams.
