السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ
It’s Thursday 14th May 2020. Let’s focus on ‘Ramaḍān and Death’ today.
This morning, I woke up to the sad news of the passing away of one of the top scholars in the world.
Allāmah Khālid Maḥmood Ṣāḥib, رَحْمَةُ الله عليه, was 95 years old and had been ill in hospital for a while, إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ.
My last meeting with Allāmah Ṣāḥib was in 2019 in Manchester, in the presence of the Masjid’s Imām Ṣāḥib, who was helping me explain everything to Allāmah Ṣāḥib. I was very fortunate to spend over an hour with Allāmah Ṣāḥib, on the topic of Moon Sighting, during which he gifted me a small booklet which he had written in 1971, in Urdu and English, on the subject, while he was the President of Jam’īat ul-‘Ulamā.
Allāmah Ṣāḥib made a very humble and emotional request to all Muslims of the UK to follow local Moon Sighting, then Morocco, and then South Africa. The Imām Ṣāḥib and a local brother by the name of Bilāl are both witnesses to this request. I wanted to record the message directly from Allāmah Ṣāḥib, but respecting the wishes of the hosts, kept my mobile at a distance (due to his heart pacemaker).
I did a brief message of my visit, at the time, and would like to share it here for the benefit of the readers.
Hope all is well. Today, Wednesday 17th April 2019, I have been honoured and privileged to meet one of our most senior scholars here in the UK, spending an hour in his company.
Allāmah Khālid Maḥmood Ṣāḥib, now 94 years old, resides in Manchester. He was sent to the UK by the government of Pākistān in 1969/1970, مَا شَآءَ الله.
Allāmah Khālid Ṣāḥib has made a very humble and heartfelt appeal to the Central Moon Sighting Committee (CMSC) to revisit their criteria of following the Moon Sighting news of Saudi Arabia especially when the CMSC have admitted that for 7 or 8 months of the year they are following the Umm ul-Qura calendar, and not rūyat.
Allāmah Ṣāḥib concluded by saying the need of the time is for the whole Muslim Ummah to unite on the Moon Sighting issue. This includes the Deobandīs and Barēlwīs.
Almighty Allāh lengthen his shadow upon us, Āmeen.
