Madrasah Leavers

السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ

It’s Wednesday 15th September/8th Safar 1443 Hijri.

Let’s focus upon Madrasah Leavers today.

As the new term started in September for secular and religious education, a number of parents may have come across a particular situation for the first time in their lives.

Once our children reach the age of 5, they enrol at the local Madrasah. Depending on the syllabus and course devised by the Madrasah, when a child reaches the age of 13/14, year 9/10 at school, they will leave Madrasah. Parents are now faced with a new challenge. Children are at home from 3pm all the way till their bedtime. The 2.5 hour Madrasah time is now either spent at home by the children, or out and about with friends.

My message today is specifically to parents who find themselves in such a dilemma. First and foremost, try your utmost best to keep your children in Madrasah for as long as possible.

Even if you have to travel a bit and make some sacrifice. This is a very crucial age in your child’s life so please do not take your eye off the ball. If such facilities are not available in your area, then bring it to the attention of the Imāms, ‘Ulamā, ‘Ālimāt and Masjid management committees.

If after exhausting all your efforts, your children are still at home, then it’s time to become teachers and educators. Spend quality time with your children and bring the best out in them.

Set a routine and pattern at home ensuring your children revise everything they have learnt and further enhance their education. Make sure they pray all their Ṣalāhs regularly, on time, and teach them all the etiquettes and beautiful teachings of Islām.

Finally, some very good news for those parents based in Blackburn. We, at the MWI, have been running the ‘Madrasah Leavers Course’ for a few years now, ‏مَا شَآءَ الله, and intend to start new courses in October. Times and venue will be confirmed upon enquiry, اِنْ شَاءَ الَّلهُ. Please see the accompanying poster below. We intend to cater for girls and boys, اِنْ شَاءَ الَّلهُ.

Almighty Allāh grant us all the ability to educate ourselves and our children as much as possible, Āmeen.
