Let’s talk about ‘Husband & Wife Responsibilities’ today.
One of the happiest days of your life is over and you also come to the end of your honeymoon. It’s now back to reality. To continue to have a happy lasting marriage, it is very important that the couple understand each other and fulfil their responsibilities.
The particular aspect I wanted to focus upon today is how a couple should manage their finances. With the cost of running a house at record levels at present, it is absolutely essential that the husband and wife both contribute positively to the upkeep of the house and maintenance of the children.
If there is a sole breadwinner, the non-earning partner should do their utmost best to run the house as economically as possible. There should be no extravagance at all. Live and spend within your means and do not overburden or put extra pressure on your partner.
Similarly, the wage-earner should do their utmost best to find the best job possible and work as hard as they can, to bring in a decent income. If both of you are working, then both should contribute sufficiently to ensure that all costs are managed comfortably.
Recently, I have come across cases where the husband contributes a fixed amount to the household costs and relies on his wife’s income to manage the rest. He doesn’t realise that his wife is struggling to make ends meet.
Some husbands are very difficult to approach, as they are very controlling in the house. This should not be the case. Work together and all your issues will be resolved, اِنْ شَاءَ الَّلهُ.
A final point, regarding husbands or wives who are from abroad. Yes of course, it is necessary for you to help your family back home as much as possible, but not at the expense of your wife and children. They come first.
We are going through difficult times. However, when there is a very good understanding between the husband and wife, all will work out well, اِنْ شَاءَ الَّلهُ.
