Funerals & Weddings
Last week was a very extraordinary week. I do not recall such a week wherein so many funerals and weddings took place here in the North (Blackburn, Bolton & Preston). One moment we were in a cemetery saying farewell to a loved one, and the next, we were at a venue where a couple were tying the knot.
Such is the reality of life. My message to all my brothers and sisters today is, don’t forget death at the time of happiness. Happy occasions are to be enjoyed. However, the enjoyment must be within Sharī’ah limits and guidelines.
Even though nearly every venue offers segregation facilities, many of us choose to have mixed gatherings. Why?
Our Nasheed Artists have tried so much to provide us with Nasheeds to suit our wedding occasions, we still insist on full blast music. Why? Prayer rooms are provided at every venue, yet we still choose not to pray. Why?
Remember, circumstances can change within a split of a second. Happiness can turn to sorrow very quickly. Therefore, always be mindful of all Sharī’ah teachings at all times. Enjoy the happy times but not at the cost of your beautiful religious teachings.
May The Almighty grant us all the correct guidance when observing happy occasions, Āmeen.
