السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ
It’s Friday 10th July 2020. My chosen topic today is ‘Family Qur’ān Hour’.
One of the greatest blessings that we have been blessed with is The Holy Qur’ān. The Qur’ān tells us each and every thing that we need to know. It talks about the creation of the heavens and the earth, the stars and the moon. It tells us about the universe and everything that is contained within it. Most importantly, it tells us about the purpose of life.
However, how many of us have tried to understand The Qur’ān? From the age of 5 until 15, we attend the local Maktab where we learn to read The Qur’ān. Those who go on to Madrasah to study further will go through the meanings of The Qur’ān and also a short commentary, but they are in the minority. The majority of us simply just know how to read.
Today, I want to make a very humble request to all families. Mutually decide and fix an hour a day to listen to the commentary of The Holy Qur’ān; evening times are best. Make this a ‘Family Qur’ān hour’, during which the whole family sit together and listen. Due to lockdown, many families have started to spend time together.
Now that we are gradually coming out of lockdown, let it not be that this family spirit vanishes again. Once you start, try your utmost best to continue for 30 days consecutively. If for one reason or another you miss one evening, no worries. However, make it a condition that everyone participates. We need mum, dad, sons, daughters and all family members to participate.
The particular Qur’ān commentary I am recommending is the one presented by Shaykh ‘Abdur Raḥmān Mangerā of ZamZam Academy. This Ramaḍān, Shaykh ‘Abdur Raḥmān presented 30 lessons in 30 days covering The Whole Qur’ān, سُبْحَانَ الله. Shaykh has made it so easy for us. All we need to do is click on a button or link, and start listening.
As well as understanding The Qur’ān, we will all bond together as a family and our house will also be full of blessings. The Qur’ān is absolutely amazing, the stories of the Prophets are so enlightening, the description of this universe and the life hereafter is truly fascinating. Therefore, decide on the ‘Family Qur’ān Hour’ and get going. It will be one of the best things we have done together as a family اِنْ شَاءَ الَّلهُ.
Almighty Allāh bless us all with the true understanding of The Qur’ān and give us the ability to benefit from it, Āmeen.
