Yawm ul-‘Arafah 1442

السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ

It’s Saturday 17th July 2021.

Let’s talk about ‘Yawm ul-‘Arafah’ today.

The 9th day of Ẓūl Ḥijjah is known as ‘Yawm ul-‘Arafah’. Depending on which Moon Sighting criteria you follow, the 9th of Ẓūl Ḥijjah will be either on Monday 19th or Tuesday 20th July.

In 2019, I was blessed to be in the company of Shaik ul-Islām Mufti Muḥammad Taqī Usmāni, مدظله العالی, when he was hosted by Shaykh ul-Ḥadīth Ḥaḍrat Mawlānā Yūsuf Motālā Ṣāḥib, نور الله مرقده. Both distinguished scholars were having lunch together.

Ḥaḍrat Mawlānā Yūsuf Motālā, نور الله مرقده, mentioned to Mufti Muḥammad Taqī Usmāni, مدظله العالی, regarding a scholar who had mentioned that ‘fasting for one day in Ẓūl Ḥijjah (Yawm ul-‘Arafah) compensates for the sins of 2 years, the previous and the next, whilst fasting for 2 days in Muḥarram ( 9th & 10th or 10th & 11th) compensates for the sins of only 1 year’.

As we approach Yawm ul-‘Arafah, my humble request to each and every one is to try their utmost best to fast on this day. Yes, the fast is very long, the weather is very hot, it’s the first day of the holidays for many, and children are at home. However, the rewards are too good to miss.

It is not compulsory, so if you feel you are not up to it, then by all means feel free not to fast. However, if you are able, then don’t miss out.

Finally, if you have still not made arrangements for your Qurbāni, then this is your last and final chance. We have extended our deadline for orders until Maghrib on Monday 19th. Place your order now. Don’t delay.

May The Almighty accept our fasts and our Qurbānis, Āmeen. May He make this ‘Eid ul-Aḍḥā a day of happiness and joy for Muslims worldwide, Āmeen.
