السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ
It’s Saturday 14th August 2021 (5th Muḥarram 1443).
Let’s talk about Muḥarram and ‘Āshūrāʾ today.
The new Islāmic year commenced on Tuesday 10th August. The first month is known as Muḥarram, which is known as the ‘Month of Almighty Allāh‘. It is a very sacred month.
The 10th day of Muḥarram is known as ‘Āshūrā. It is desirable to fast on this day. We should also add another one fast with it. Therefore, we should try and fast on either Wednesday and Thursday in this coming week or Thursday and Friday. The sins of one year are forgiven as a reward of this fast of ‘Āshūrā’. One should also spend generously on one’s family on this day. This will bring barakah (blessings) to your family throughout the whole year.

Finally, the start of the new year is also a very timely reminder that another year of our life has come to an end. Little do we know how many years we have left in this world. Let’s reflect upon our past life and ask forgiveness from The Almighty for all our shortcomings. Let’s also value each and every second of the rest of our life. Only when our eyes close for the last and final time in this world will we truly appreciate how precious each moment was.
Almighty Allāh give us all the ability to value time and to make the most of this blessed month, Āmeen.
