It’s Wednesday 15th June 2022 / 15 Ẓūl Qā’dah 1443H.
Jumu’ah, Janāzah & a Nikāḥ
I was invited to the Nikah of a very close friend’s son last Friday, 10th June. The venue was the Zakariyya Jāme Masjid of Bolton. The Masjid was packed for Jumu’ah. The get together of Muslims for Jumu’ah is a moment of happiness. Everyone united in the worship of their Creator.
Soon after Jumu’ah prayer, a Janāzah Ṣalāh took place. The coffin of the deceased was placed at the front and it was a time of sadness as we all prayed for the Marḥūma. Once the Janāzah was done, it was time for the Nikāḥ. The moments of sadness turned to moments of happiness and joy.
I was reflecting upon this life and how different it can be for sets of families at the same time. One set is grieving a loss of a family member whilst the other set is celebrating the start of a married life for their family member.
As these thoughts were crossing my mind, my colleague Mufti ‘Abdul Ḥamīd, who was performing the Nikāḥ, spoke for a few minutes and touched upon this very issue. His theme was ‘how life and feelings change within seconds and minutes.‘
The key message was that,
‘We should always keep Almighty Allāh as our central focus at all times. In times of sadness and hardships, we turn to Allāh. In moments of happiness and joy, we turn to Allāh. As long as Almighty Allāh is your priority, then these changes of situations will always be rewarding for you.’
It was a very powerful and emotional message. Without a shadow of doubt, this life is full of tests. Successful will be the one who remains God conscious at all times. In times of hardships, our patience is being tested. During the moments of happiness, our gratitude is being tested.
May The Almighty grant us all the ability to remain steadfast on our Dīn and always turn to Him in times of happiness and sadness, Āmeen.
