It was exactly a year ago when the UK entered it’s first lockdown. As I was sitting on my Musalla after Ṣalāh one day contemplating on the situation and trying to figure out what could be the reason Almighty Allāh is angry with us, a number of issues started to come into my mind.
With the first and foremost intention of rectifying myself, and then the masses out there, I started to write ‘Self Reflections‘ messages on WhatsApp and send them out to my near and dear ones. I was trying my utmost best to address those issues which, maybe, were not being touched upon or addressed due to their sensitive nature, or perhaps they may offend or hurt someone’s feelings.
As my sole intention was rectification and nothing else, I was fully confident that all my messages will be read in a positive atmosphere, اِنْ شَاءَ الَّلهُ. Once I started my messages, a colleague volunteered to edit them and another friend started to moderate them.
From humble beginnings, the WhatsApp broadcast list gradually grew to reach capacity. The messages currently go out twice weekly, and get uploaded to the website, usually with some supplementary resources – authentic content from trusted scholars – which expand on the topic, or give you a starting point for further guidance.
Four months later, on the occasion of Yawme ‘Arafah, my website was launched. Today, one year on, by the Grace and Mercy of The Almighty and my well wishers, https://hdreflections.com/ contains all the messages which I have been inspired to compose over the last 12 months, مَا شَآءَ الله, along with accounts of some of my travels, and a few other related topics as well. The website has had over 18,000 hits within the last 8 months, from 50 countries.
This shows that a little effort can become the means of benefiting many thousands of people, اَلْحَمْدُلِلّه. For me personally, this coronavirus year has been a blessing in disguise. It has definitely opened my eyes to the value of time, reinforcing just how precious each and every moment is.
To all my readers, I would say that, become a ‘peoples person’. Benefit the people as much as you can, so that when you are not around anymore and are in need of good deeds, the efforts you have left behind, will definitely yield fruits, اِنْ شَاءَ الَّلهُ.
