Connect to The Qur’ān
The Holy Qur’ān was revealed by Almighty Allāh, upon the Holy Prophet, صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ, through Ḥaḍrat Jibraīl, عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ. All the verses are divine revelations, directly from Allāh. It is as though the Creator is speaking with His creation.
However, how many of us have made any effort to try and understand what our Creator is telling us? Our journey started well when we were very young, attending our local Maktab, starting with alif, bā, tā, etc.
We were probably only 5 years old. At the age of 16, when we left our Maktab, we could recite the Qur’ān fluently. What happened after that? The next step was to try and understand the message of the Qur’ān. Alas, it didn’t happen.
The Tafsīr (explanation) of the Qur’ān takes place in many Masjids, usually once a week or monthly in some. It is very sad to see that not many people sit and benefit.
Having pondered upon this weakness of ours, we at al-Masjid al-Aqsa on Emerald Street, have started a daily ’10 mins’ Qur’ān lesson programme, delivered by our respected Imām, local Blackburn born & bred, Shaykh Hārūn Sidāt.
As a small introduction, Shaykh is not just an Imām. His credentials give an insight into the calibre of this individual. Teacher at Dārul Uloom Blackburn, researcher at Cardiff university and trustee at Cambridge Muslim College.
Each and every single day after ‘Ishā (currently 9:30pm), Shaykh gives an insight into the verses of the Qur’ān. It truly is very fascinating when you understand what your Creator is saying to you.
My message today to all our Blackburn brothers, especially those living in the Roe Lee / Brownhill / Sunnybower areas, is to come and participate in the lesson every day. It will definitely be of great benefit, اِنْ شَاءَ الَّلهُ. Bring your boys as well.
