Character and Behaviour

السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ

It’s Wednesday 29th September/23 Safar 1443 H.

My chosen topic today is Character and Behaviour.

One of the most important teachings of our beautiful religion is ‘Character and Behaviour’. These actions are even more important when living in non-Muslim countries. There are numerous incidents where the character of the Muslims influenced non-Muslims to accept Islām.

Honesty, kindness, respect, and good language are all part of our wonderful teachings. Additionally, abiding by the law of the land and practising what we preach is also very important.

Unfortunately today, we have all become victims and seem to have lost our beautiful heritage. We preach to others that ‘choose for your brother what you choose for yourself‘. However, when it comes to action, our selfishness overtakes us.

As regards honesty and trust, we are at the forefront in lying and deceiving. Our character has gone down so much that instead of being an example and role model to non-Muslims, we may well be putting them off from our beautiful religion.

So today, let’s take stock of our actions. Am I an asset to my community or a burden? Have a look at our parking methods outside schools and Madrasahs. ‘Double-yellow lines’ and ‘no parking/no stopping’ signs mean nothing to us.

In fact, we always do the opposite. The speeds our youngsters, as well as some of our elders, drive at in built-up areas is shocking to say the least. Pubs, off-licences and betting shops, located within the Muslim community, are doing a booming trade. Who are their customers and clients?

Let’s turn a fresh leaf in our lives and become role model Muslims so that we attract people towards our faith rather than distancing them.

May The Almighty beautify our character and behaviour, Āmeen.

Please share with family and friends.
