4 reasons to get married and importance of Mahr-e-Fātimī
I was invited to a friend’s daughter’s Nikāḥ yesterday (Friday). The guest of honour to perform the Nikāḥ was Shaykh ul-Ḥadīth Ḥaḍrat Mawlānā Bilāl Ṣāḥib, مدظله العالی, who is one of the leading Deobandī scholars in the UK at present.
Ḥaḍrat Mawlānā Yūsuf Motālā Ṣāḥib, نور الله مرقده, nominated Shaikh Bilāl as a trustee of Dārul Uloom Bury as his replacement and also made him the principle of Markazul Uloom here in Blackburn.
Before the Nikāḥ, Shaikh Bilāl mentioned four reasons for getting married:
1 – To fulfil the Command of our Creator.
2 – To fulfil the Sunnah of The Best of the creations The Holy Prophet Muḥammad, صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
3 – To fulfil one’s natural desires.
4 – To have children.
Shaikh Bilāl emphasised point number 3 saying that Islām does not allow any man or woman to have a relationship unless through Nikāḥ. Once Nikāḥ is done, no extra-marital relationship is allowed.
It is unfortunate that today, even after Nikāḥ, many people indulge in unlawful relationships. Shaikh Bilāl specifically mentioned the chit chat on social media between males and females. This is completely prohibited and invokes the anger and curse of Almighty Allāh.
It was a very powerful message, especially for the youth. Shaikh finished off with the importance of having Mahr-e-Fātimī as the dowry for the bride. Shaikh mentioned that this was the 117th Nikah he was performing where the dowry was Mahr-e-Fātimī. It equated to £860 on the day.

Mahr-e-Fātimī is the amount that our Beloved Prophet, صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ, asked Ḥaḍrat Ali, رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ, to give to Ḥaḍrat Fāṭimah, رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا, at the time of their Nikāḥ. It has enormous blessings. Thereafter, Shaikh Bilal performed the Nikāḥ and concluded with a very emotional Du’ā
May Almighty Allāh grant us all the correct understanding of marriage and enable all parents to find suitable partners for their children when they reach the age of marriage, Āmeen. May Almighty Allāh lengthen Shaikh Bilāl’s shadow upon us and enable us to benefit from his words of wisdom, Āmeen.
