السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ
It’s Saturday 13th March 2021.
My chosen topic today is ‘The Starting Time of Fasts‘, a subject I have touched upon previously.
As we are about to enter the month of Sha’bān, many people will start fasting. The million dollar question in everyone’s mind is ‘at what time do we start our fast?’
I have personally spent a lot of time looking into this issue and have spoken to all the major stakeholders. With Almighty Allāh as my Witness, and to the best of my knowledge, the starting times presented by Wifāqul ‘Ulamā UK are the most accurate, .مَا شَآءَ الله I humbly request all brothers and sisters to download the Wifāqul ‘Ulamā app (Android, iPhone), or go on to the Wifāqul ‘Ulamā website. They have produced a timetable for the whole country, مَا شَآءَ الله.
Under the guidance and supervision of some of the UK’s leading Muftiyāne Kirām and scholars, Wifāqul ‘Ulamā UK have researched this issue very thoroughly, and concluded that Ṣubḥ Ṣādiq occurs when the sun is 18 degrees below the horizon. This is the practice all across the world and in many parts of the UK.
The only exception to this timing is the timetable created by Hizbul ‘Ulamā UK, following their observation (Mushāhadah), which was carried out in the 1980s. Many more observations (Mushāhadahs) have been carried out in the UK thereafter, all of which concluded that Ṣubḥ Ṣādiq occurred when the sun is 18 degrees below the horizon.
Remember, the fasts of Ramaḍān are Farḍ. Starting the fast at the correct time is a condition of the validity of the fast. Download the Wifāqul ‘Ulamā app (Android, iPhone), and follow the timings to ensure your fasts are correct.
Almighty Allāh give the correct understanding to the responsibles of Hizbul ‘Ulamā so that they review this observation (Mushāhadah) of theirs so that they can guide their followers to start their fasts at the correct times, Āmeen.
I am more than happy to speak with anyone, especially the Muftiyāne Kirām, Imāms and ‘Ulamā regarding this very important issue, اِنْ شَاءَ الَّلهُ.
جَزَاكَ اللَّهُ خَيْرًا
